THIMPHU – In a historic announcement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MoFAE) stated that His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, is set to embark on a momentous two-day State Visit to the kingdom of Bhutan from 21-22 March 2024.

This historic visit comes at the gracious invitation of His Majesty The King, underscoring the deep-rooted bonds between the two nations.
Accompanied by senior officials for the Government of India, Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary is brimming with significant engagements. Right after arriving in the capital city of Thimphu tomorrow, Prime Minister Modi will receive audiences with His Majesty The King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, a testament to the profound respect shared between the leaders of India and Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi will also meet his counterpart, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
Among the highlights of this historic visit is the momentous inauguration of the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu, a symbol of the collaborative efforts between the two nations in advancing healthcare infrastructure. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, will preside over the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding, fostering deeper cooperation across various spheres of mutual interest.
The enduring partnership between Bhutan and India, characterised by mutual trust and goodwill, serves as a beacon of diplomatic excellence. This forthcoming visit, according to the press release, provides a propitious opportunity for both leaders to engage in substantive discussions on bilateral and regional affairs, with a view to further strengthening the exemplary partnership for the collective welfare of their peoples.

This is the second State visit to Bhutan by His Excellency Narendra Modi during his second term as the Prime Minister of India. His last visit to Bhutan was on 17-18 August 2019.
